    Preparation

    Under local anaesthetic, about 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel is removed from the front, less than the thickness of a credit card.

    Digital impression

    A scanner captures your teeth without any impression paste. Your veneers are made from it, on the same day if you wish.

    Try-in

    The wafer-thin ceramic shells are tried in and placed on the teeth one by one.

    Bonding

    A special adhesive and blue light bond shell and tooth permanently.

What a veneer is

A shell on your own tooth, not a replacement.

A veneer doesn’t replace a tooth, it clads it: the wafer-thin ceramic shell is bonded on and becomes one with the tooth.

Veneer or crown?

A crown wraps the whole tooth. A veneer only covers the front and the edge.

When veneers are the right choice

  • Healthy gums, no untreated decay.
  • Enough enamel to bond to, otherwise a crown is better.
  • Grinding checked beforehand, with a splint if needed.
  • Whiten first, then choose the shade. Veneers can’t be bleached.

For gaps and worn edges a veneer is often the gentlest solution: the tooth itself is barely changed, the shell takes over length and contour. The bite is checked beforehand so the new edge is not overloaded when biting. Anyone who grinds at night gets a splint as well.

Ceramic lets light through like enamel, which is why the result does not look painted on. The colour is fixed before preparation and cannot be bleached later; anyone who wants lighter teeth whitens first and then chooses the shade of the shells.

For mild misalignment veneers can replace braces, for stronger ones they cannot: too much tooth would be sacrificed. That is exactly what we check on the digital scan before anything is prepared, and we say so openly if braces or aligners are the better means.

Why six and not two? Because the eye reads a smile as a surface. If only the two central teeth are treated, the neighbours stand out afterwards. From canine to canine a continuous line emerges; which teeth belong to it is decided by the smile line in the consultation.

The process

How the treatment goes.

Everything in one day if you wish, otherwise two to three visits within a week. Nothing is prepared until you have seen the design and agreed to it.

    Consultation and scan

    About an hour. Photos, digital scan, shade chosen in daylight. You take the cost plan home.

  2. 02

    Design on screen

    The new shape is planned on the scan. On request you wear it in your mouth first as a resin trial.

  3. 03

    Preparation

    Under anaesthetic a thin layer of enamel is removed. If the try-in is on another day, you wear temporaries until then.

  4. 04

    Try-in and bonding

    Check fit and colour, then bond shell by shell and cure with light.

  5. 05

    Check-up

    After one to two weeks: check the bite, polish the margins, talk through care. Grinders get a night guard.

Common questions

Questions before the first visit.

How long until my veneers are finished?

In a single day if you wish: consultation, preparation, scan and fitting in one visit. That suits patients from Cologne, Düren or the Euregio who do not want to travel two or three times. Otherwise we spread the steps over two to three visits within one week.

Does the treatment hurt?

The tooth is prepared under local anaesthetic. For a day or two afterwards it may be slightly more sensitive to cold; that settles on its own.

How long do veneers last?

Ceramic veneers often last 15 years or more with good care. Composite veneers last less long but can be repaired directly in the practice.

Does my tooth have to be ground down?

Usually only a wafer-thin layer of enamel is removed, about as thick as the future shell. In suitable cases, no-prep veneers need no grinding at all.

What do veneers cost in Aachen?

Veneers are a private service under the German dental fee schedule. The price depends on material, number of teeth and preparation. You receive a written treatment and cost plan before treatment.

Does health insurance pay for veneers?

Statutory insurers do not cover purely cosmetic veneers. Private top-up plans contribute depending on the policy; we issue the cost plan so that you can submit it.

Can I whiten my teeth before veneers?

Yes, and that is the right order: whiten first, then match the veneer shade to the result. Once bonded, a ceramic shell no longer changes colour.

How do I care for veneers day to day?

Like your own teeth: brush twice a day, floss, have regular professional cleanings. Do not open bottles or bite nails with them; if you grind at night, wear a splint.

What if a veneer chips?

A single veneer can be replaced without touching the neighbouring teeth. Small chips in composite are repaired directly in the practice.

Is the trip from Cologne or Düren worth it for veneers?

Yes, especially for veneers: if you wish we do everything in one day, so a single trip is enough. Otherwise it is two or three visits within a week, not weekly appointments for months. From Cologne you reach Aachen by train in about 35 minutes, from Düren in around 20. The practice is on Großkölnstraße in the city centre, a fifteen-minute walk from the main station, with several car parks within walking distance.

What do I look like between appointments?

After preparation you get resin temporaries that already show the shape and shade of the final shells. You eat, speak and smile normally with them until the ceramic comes back from the lab.

The practice

Großkölnstraße 22, in the centre of Aachen.

Fifteen minutes from Eschweiler, Stolberg, Würselen and Herzogenrath, half an hour from Düren and Heinsberg, about 35 minutes by train from Cologne. Heerlen, Maastricht and Liège are close too. The Großkölnstraße car park is right opposite.
